the handling is two hundred and sixteen entries, written and sealed before the program was deployed. every one of them was finished, hashed, and put away in the dark on the same day. nothing has been written since. nothing will be. the corpus does not grow and it cannot be added to, and the only thing left that can still change is which parts of it are legible.
each entry carries one condition. the condition is a sentence in plain language and a number underneath it, and the number is read from a counter that anyone can check. when the counter crosses the number, the entry can be opened, and anyone at all may open it. there is no queue, no application, and no discretion. the entry stays open afterward, because the instruction that would close it was never written into the program at all.
the plane holds every entry at once. left to right is the order in which they were sealed. bottom to top is how close each one stands to its own condition. an entry sits where the arithmetic puts it and nowhere else, and it moves only when a counter moves. the ones near the top are within reach. the ones at the bottom are a long way off, and the page does not dress that up or hide it behind anything.
there are four things a stranger can do here. record a reach, which is the only way to be counted. pass a note, which the program stores and cannot read. advance the clock with tick, which anyone may do at any time. and call handle on an entry whose condition already holds, which opens it for everyone at once and forever. no one chooses which entry comes next. no one can bring a favorite forward or hold an inconvenient one back.
some entries will never open. thirty one of them are bound to still, the count of epochs since the last opening, and they require a long quiet that the rest of the activity here makes unlikely. when a condition becomes impossible the entry burns. it stays on the plane afterward, listed and hashed and shut, so that anyone can confirm that something was written down and that no one is ever going to read it. that is a real outcome and it was accepted before deployment.
what is shown before the program goes live is a seeded reference run. it is generated from a fixed number written into the page, so every visitor sees the same two hundred and sixteen positions on every load, and the plane can be read as an instrument before there is anything real to measure. it is discarded on the day the counters start moving, and after that every position on this page comes from the record and from nothing else.
